I wanted to write a short post on how my blog got its name. While I was a dance teacher for about five years, the name did not stem from my students. In fact, I made them call me Miss Brie because of the story I am about to tell you.
I was doted on by my Grammy and her sisters when I was born. I got all of the attention in the world that I could have asked for those first five months before my cousin was born. Even as a toddler, I ate it up. I played teacher, bossed them around and carried just the right amount, or maybe too much, sass wherever I went.
When I was little, my grandparents owned an Italian deli called Silvio’s on Inman Avenue in Colonia (I believe it is now a Subway). They made amazing subs, and I have many fond memories of being there throughout the years they were there. My Grammy now has 12 grandchildren, and I think it is safe to say that she is obsessed with all of us, but I was the first one. My gift for being the first grandchild? A sandwich named after me.
MISS BRIELLE
Because of this sandwich, which I still have yet to try, every time I hear “Miss Brielle” my thoughts automatically go to this sandwich. Not my name, my sandwich.
My grandmother had sandwiches named after all of my siblings and cousins before the deli closed, so I was not alone nor special in this act of sandwich creation. I just felt that sharing the story of how my blog got its name would be a fun post!
If you make and try this sandwich, please post a photo on Instagram, tag me @briedownes and use the hashtag missbrielle. I would love to see, and I would love to know what you think!
